GCC Definitions and Terminology
These are the terms used across Gas Contractor Connect, explained in plain language so visitors, listers, seekers, workforce users, and staff read them the same way.
Directory and listings
- Seeker
- A person or organization looking for contractors, providers, services, or project responses. A Free Seeker Account lets you sign in, see contact details a company chooses to share with members, and message companies that accept GCC messages. It does not create a company listing.
- Lister
- The company, or the authorized person acting for that company, creating and maintaining a company listing.
- Contractor
- A company that performs field work in the natural-gas industry, such as installation, construction, maintenance, or related site work.
- Provider
- A company offering contractor, service, supply, or other business capabilities.
- Service provider
- A company whose offering is primarily supporting, professional, protective, or specialized work rather than field construction.
- Supplier
- A company that manufactures, distributes, or sells materials, equipment, parts, or other products used in natural-gas work. Suppliers handle product pricing, stock, and orders themselves; GCC does not sell products.
- Supplier categories
- GCC staff-managed groups of natural-gas products. Suppliers choose categories and subcategories that describe what they supply; requests for new options require GCC staff approval.
- Featured products
- Optional products a Supplier chooses to show on its public profile, not its full catalog. Products hidden by the owner stay in the editor but are excluded from public profiles, directory search, and Spotlight.
- Supplier GCC messaging
- Optional conversations inside GCC. The Supplier owner can turn visitor messaging off or on immediately, without staff review. Opting out blocks new visitor conversations and visitor replies in existing conversations, but preserves history and owner replies. GCC staff messaging is unaffected.
- Company listing
- The directory record a company maintains about itself: who it is, where it works, and what it offers.
- Provider type
- The kind of company a listing represents, used to group listings in the directory.
- Capabilities
- Field tasks or work a company performs.
- Services
- Supporting, professional, protective, or specialized services.
- States served
- The states a company says it will work in. Listings can be searched by these.
Projects
- Project request
- A request created by a seeker describing work it needs responses for. It is not a company listing and does not place the requester in the directory.
- Project request creator
- The seeker who created a particular project request and manages the responses to it.
Workforce
- Workforce
- GCC’s connection area between approved organizations and job hunters.
- Job hunter
- An individual seeking workforce opportunities.
- Workforce employer
- An approved organization that posts workforce opportunities and reviews the people who show interest in them.
- Workforce opportunity
- A posting from an approved organization describing work it is looking to fill.
- Interest
- A signal from one side to the other that it would like to be considered. On its own it shares no private contact details.
- Mutual acceptance
- The point at which both required parties have accepted. It happens only after each side accepts and all privacy and authorization checks pass.
- Contact release
- The step that makes approved contact details available to both sides. It occurs only after mutual acceptance and only when all privacy and authorization checks pass.
- Contact release revoked
- A released set of contact details is no longer available. Access ends and the details are hidden again.
Review and publication
- Eligibility application
- The first step a company completes to ask whether it may apply for a GCC listing. It does not create or publish a listing.
- Eligibility accepted
- The company may continue to the next step. Eligibility acceptance is not approval, certification, vetting, endorsement, or publication.
- Verified business email
- A business email address whose control has been confirmed. It confirms control of that email address and nothing more.
- Private listing
- A listing being prepared by its company. It is not shown in the public directory.
- Publication review
- The review of a completed listing to decide whether it can appear in the public directory.
- Published listing
- A listing that has passed publication review and can appear in the public directory.
- Staff review
- A review carried out by GCC staff at one of the review points, such as eligibility or publication.
- Needs more information
- A review outcome asking for something to be added, corrected, or explained before a decision can be made.
- Approved
- A review outcome allowing the reviewed item to continue. It is not an endorsement, certification, licence, or guarantee of a company’s work.
- Declined
- A review outcome that does not allow the reviewed item to continue.
Account and status terms
- Active listing
- A listing its company is currently keeping in use. A listing may be active or inactive independently from whether it has been published.
- Suspended
- Use is paused by GCC. The record still exists, and its history is kept.
- Closed
- The item is finished and no longer open to further action.
Why GCC Reviews Listings and Updates
GCC reviews company information and updates to help keep the directory accurate, professional, useful, and trustworthy for the people using it.
- Keep company names, contact information, locations, websites, services, capabilities, and states served accurate and current.
- Prevent spam, scams, fraudulent claims, misleading offers, and mass promotional content.
- Reject or remove foul, abusive, threatening, hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate language.
- Reject unsafe, malicious, deceptive, illegal, adult, irrelevant, or otherwise inappropriate external websites and links.
- Keep listings focused on legitimate natural-gas, contractor, provider, supplier, service, project, and workforce purposes.
- Prevent keyword stuffing, duplicate submissions, fake identities, impersonation, and attempts to manipulate search visibility.
- Protect private personal information and prevent unnecessary exposure of sensitive contact details.
- Ensure selected categories, capabilities, services, provider types, and descriptions accurately represent the company.
- Help quality companies remain quality listings as their information and public presentation change over time.
- GCC review is intended to maintain directory quality and user trust.
- Approval or publication does not mean GCC endorses, certifies, licenses, guarantees, or vouches for a company’s work.
- “Verified business email” only confirms control of that email address.
- GCC may request changes, decline content, suspend a listing, or require more information when content no longer meets the directory’s accuracy, safety, professionalism, or relevance standards.
- These standards apply to updates as well as initial submissions.
