More Than Compliance Software: What Cambri Compliance Can Do for Contractors, Utilities, Calibration Labs and Service Companies
Brian Ochs introduces Cambri Compliance, a second platform he founded to help natural gas companies organize the records behind their work and prove what they did.

Doing the work is only part of the job
Explore Cambri Compliance (opens in a new tab)If you work in the natural gas industry long enough, you learn something pretty quickly: Doing the work is only part of the job. You also have to prove it.
Your employee may be qualified. Your gas detector may have been calibrated. The correct part may have been installed. The contractor may have submitted the required documentation. The inspection may have been completed.
But when a customer, compliance manager, or auditor asks for the record, ‘I know we have it somewhere’ isn't a very good answer.
That's the problem Cambri Compliance was created to address.
Cambri is a modular compliance and operations platform designed around the real-world needs of natural gas utilities, pipeline operators, contractors, calibration laboratories, service providers, and compliance professionals.
It helps companies organize the records behind their work, know who is responsible, preserve evidence, and retrieve that evidence when somebody asks for it.
And Cambri isn't designed to replace everything your company already uses. It is designed to handle the work that broad systems often don't handle particularly well: the details required to stay compliant and prove it.
Start With the Problem You Actually Have
Explore Cambri Core (opens in a new tab)One thing I deliberately did not want Cambri to become was another giant software package where a company buys 100 features and uses twelve of them.
Cambri is modular. Every organization starts with Cambri Core, the common foundation for users, permissions, documents, dashboards, audit history, and shared compliance workflows. From there, a company can add the modules that actually fit its operation.
That means a calibration laboratory doesn't need to buy contractor-management software it doesn't need. A contractor doesn't need to buy a giant enterprise system just to manage OQ records. And a company can add additional capabilities as its needs grow.
Who Can Use Cambri?
Cambri can be especially useful for:
- Calibration and metrology laboratories: manage customer instruments, calibration schedules, certificates, due dates, pass/fail history, as-found/as-left information where applicable, repairs, and chain of custody. A certificate shouldn't require digging through folders and spreadsheets.
- Natural gas contractors: keep OQ records, equipment and calibration evidence, compliance documents, and job information organized for host utility requests; share authorized information with host companies.
- Natural gas utilities and pipeline operators: organize calibration, OQ, contractor, operational, and audit evidence under a controlled framework.
- OQ managers and coordinators: track workers, covered tasks, qualification status, requalification dates, missing evidence, and pre-job verification before the crew is waiting to work.
- Service providers and inspection companies: manage equipment, instruments, documentation, inventory, and evidence associated with customer work.
- Warehouse and field operations: track inventory from the shelf to the truck to the job using QR-based unit identification and movement history.
- Companies that live in spreadsheets: bring critical information out of disconnected spreadsheets, folders, shared drives, and emails into a more controlled record.
CalTrack — Know Your Instruments and Their History
Explore CalTrack (opens in a new tab)CalTrack is Cambri's instrument and calibration management system. It can track:
- Instrument inventory, calibration records, calibration due dates, and certificates.
- Instrument status, responsibility, custody, and movement history.
- QR/sticker identification and audit-ready calibration information and reporting.
GENERAL INVENTORY IS NOT COMPLIANCE EVIDENCE.
OQTrack — Don't Just Know Someone Is Qualified. Prove It.
Explore OQTrack (opens in a new tab)OQTrack manages the documentation and administrative side of Operator Qualification. Capabilities include worker qualification records, covered tasks, qualification dates, requalification dates, current qualification status, supporting evidence, qualification history, missing-documentation visibility, and pre-job verification.
One of the capabilities I particularly like is pre-job verification. Before somebody performs a covered task, the organization can document that the person's qualification was checked for that task at that time. Now the answer isn't ‘Yes, I'm pretty sure he was qualified.’ There is a record showing that the verification occurred.
ConTrack — Contractor Compliance Without Giving Away the Keys
Explore ConTrack (opens in a new tab)ConTrack addresses another problem I saw repeatedly in the industry: How does a contractor prove compliance to a host company without surrendering control of all its records?
ConTrack creates controlled, relationship-based sharing. Contractors retain control of their information while authorized host companies get appropriately scoped visibility into records shared with them. That can include OQ information from OQTrack, calibration information from CalTrack, and other compliance documents.
The objective is simple: Give the customer what they are authorized to see. Keep control of what they aren't. And document what was shared.
InvTrack — Where Is It, Who Had It, and Where Did It Go?
Explore InvTrack (opens in a new tab)InvTrack brings QR-based inventory and unit tracking into the Cambri platform. Companies can track parts, tools, stocked units, warehouse locations, trucks, job assignments, transfers, usage, returns, count reconciliation, missing-item review, and movement history.
For a contractor, that can mean knowing whether an item is on the shelf, on Brian's truck, at Job 1842, used, returned, or missing. That's a lot more useful than a spreadsheet that says you bought twelve of them six months ago.
PurTrack — Purchasing With Traceability
Explore PurTrack (opens in a new tab)PurTrack connects purchasing and receiving to the operational record. Instead of purchasing living in one world, inventory in another, and job documentation somewhere else, Cambri is designed so purchasing, inventory, and field work can form a connected operational chain.
That becomes particularly valuable when you need to answer: What did we buy? Who supplied it? When did we receive it? Where did it go? What job ultimately used it?
JobTrack — Preserve the Story of the Job
Explore JobTrack (opens in a new tab)A completed job is more than a status that says ‘Closed.’ There may be photographs, parts, personnel, instruments, documentation, approvals, and supporting evidence associated with that work.
JobTrack is designed to preserve that job documentation and accountability as part of the same Cambri environment rather than leaving the evidence scattered across phones, email, folders, and other systems.
And Then the Auditor Walks In...
This is where the individual pieces become something much bigger. Cambri was designed around audit-ready evidence, not merely storing documents. An auditor shouldn't have to watch five people hunt through three systems and a filing cabinet.
If the auditor asks, ‘Show me your gas detection instruments,’ find the report. Review it. Show it. Document that it was provided.
If the auditor then points to one instrument and says, ‘Give me the calibration history on this one,’ find that evidence. Review it. Provide it. Document it.
And when the audit is finished, the organization should be able to preserve what was requested and what was actually provided. Cambri's Guided Audit Response philosophy is built around making that process controlled, documented, and defensible.
An audit response should distinguish Evidence Prepared, Provided to Auditor, and Included in Audit Package. Not everything prepared internally necessarily needs to be given to the auditor. Not everything shown to the auditor necessarily needs to be included in the final package. Confirm which of these steps Cambri's current audit tools support for your workflow.
DO THE WORK. DOCUMENT THE WORK. PROVE THE WORK.
Audit Packages — Know What Was Asked and What Was Provided
Explore Cambri audit readiness (opens in a new tab)The goal is to preserve a defensible record of what the auditor requested, the exact request, who handled it, what evidence was prepared, what evidence was actually provided, when and how it was provided, what was selected for the final package, and what package ultimately left the organization. Ask Cambri which of these steps its current audit tools support for your workflow.
It reduces confusion. It helps prevent oversharing. It gives compliance management and leadership visibility into what occurred. It reduces later arguments about ‘Who gave them that?’, ‘What did the auditor actually ask for?’, ‘Did we send this?’, and ‘Was that document included in the package?’ The objective isn't blame. The objective is a clear, documented record.
Cambri Is Also About Responsibility
One of the hardest compliance questions isn't ‘Do we have a record?’ It's ‘Who was responsible?’ Depending on the workflow, Cambri can track assignments, responsible people, custody, location, status, actions, and history.
That matters because compliance isn't improved by blaming someone after something goes wrong. It is improved by making responsibility clear before something goes wrong.
What Cambri Isn't
Cambri isn't attempting to become your accounting system. It isn't trying to replace your entire ERP. It isn't trying to become every piece of software your company uses. That's intentional.
Large enterprise systems can be very good at what they were designed to do. But a natural gas contractor, utility, service provider, or calibration laboratory can have incredibly specific requirements. One instrument may need calibration every 30 days. Another may need it annually. One may require a bump test. Another may not. The compliance system needs to understand those differences.
One may have five meaningful data points. Another may have hundreds. The compliance system needs to understand those differences. Cambri helps organize the specialized evidence behind the work and make that evidence available when it matters.
CAMBRI IS THE COMPLIANCE LAYER.
You Don't Have to Be a Giant Utility to Use It
This is particularly important for GCC members. Cambri isn't only for large utilities. A smaller contractor may start because it needs better OQ tracking. A calibration company may start with CalTrack. A service provider may need inventory and job documentation. A larger operator may eventually use several connected modules.
THE POINT ISN'T TO BUY THE MOST SOFTWARE. THE POINT IS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM YOU ACTUALLY HAVE.
Built From the Industry, Not From a Conference Room
I founded Cambri after more than 38 years working in the natural gas industry, including utility compliance, field operations, calibration management, and regulatory programs. The platform is deliberately focused on the kinds of questions people encounter in the real world — not simply what looks good on a software feature list.
Cambri's broader mission also includes education, compliance guidance, audit preparation, and helping organizations improve how compliance knowledge is preserved and passed to the next generation. The objective isn't to make compliance look complicated. It's the opposite. Know what needs to be done. Know who is responsible. Do it. Document it. And be able to prove it.
Could Cambri Help Your Company?
If you're already part of the Gas Contractor Connect community, you're exactly the kind of person I want to invite to take a look. You may be a contractor. You may run a calibration lab. You may manage OQ. You may provide specialized services to utilities. You may work for the utility itself. Or you may simply be tired of managing important records with spreadsheets, shared drives, disconnected systems, and institutional memory.
Take a look at Cambri. Not because every GCC member needs it. They don't. Take a look because you may recognize a problem you've been living with for years — and discover there is now a tool specifically designed to help solve it.
Stay compliant. Prove it.
